Trigger Point Injections

Your physician has injected medication into the localized areas of pain in your muscles called your trigger points.

At first, your pain may worsen until the medication has become fully effective. This may take up to one week. To help minimize your discomfort, please use your pain medications as prescribed. The use of intermittent ice at the site of your injection may be helpful for the first 24 hours in minimizing your discomfort. Moist heat or ice may be used after that, depending on your preference. Please remember to exercise caution when using ice and moist heat because the area may become numb. Monitor your skin condition at regular intervals.

You may experience some TEMPORARY minor side effects caused by the short term use of the steroids. These may include fluid retention, restlessness, weight gain, anxiety, mood changes, sweating, redness of the face, acne or irregular menstrual periods.

Please call us with any questions or concerns you may have.
